Located within the beautiful Port Gocek Marina, Port
Art Gallery became the first contemporary arts exhibition space to
be opened in Gocek. A huge crowd made of Gocek socialites & dignitaries,
yacht owners, tourists, and art lovers attended the Saturday evening’s
opening reception held within and in the garden of the gallery space. The
gallery is housed in its own building located next to the trendy Cafe
Port, within the Port Gocek complex.Open to the general public from 8:00 until 9:00 pm everyday of the week, Port Art Gallery aims to bring the works of contemporay Turkish artists to the attention of its already expanding Turkish and international clientele. The gallery is curated by Ozlem Paker, who holds a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree from Fine Arts Academy of Istanbul, and a MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree from Parsons School of Design of New School University, New York.
The
opening exhibition, which will be on display until the end of July, consists
of works by Fikret Mualla, Ayfer Kalsin, Peter Hristoff, Ozlem Paker,
Devrim Erbil, Vita Giorgi, Sadik Altinok, and Çigdem Erbil.
The works exhibited can be purchased from the gallery.These works will remain
in the collection for the entire vacation season.Ozlem Paker says that Port Art Gallery will host at least two solo exhibitions of contemporary artists throughout the summer. Already in the works are a solo show by Istanbul based phorographer Sitki Kosemen, and a solo painting exhibition by Peter Hristoff, the Istanbul-born, New York based artist and arts professor. Orhan Taner of Cafe Port, who is a co-owner of Port Art Gallery, added that he and Paker are very encouraged by the turnout for Saturday evening’s opening and first day’s sales. Taner believes that Gocek with its natural beauty and highly sophisticated visitor profile, is the perfect environment to spend an afternoon for the art lovers of the region. He believes that the opening of Port Art Gallery will increase the attractiveness of Gocek for Fethiye’s art-admiring locals and visitors.
Port Art Gallery is only 0.5 hour drive from Fethiye on the way to Dalaman Airport, and should present a pleasant alternative for all visitors to our region.
